2024 Toyota Tacoma Buyer’s Guide Specs Trim Comparison

Toyota has ushered in the next generation of its benchmark midsize pickup truck. The 2024 Toyota Tacoma is all-new, improving upon every aspect of its predecessors to deliver a sophisticated vehicle that stands out among the saturated truck market.

Arriving in 8 trims with two bed and powertrain configurations, the 2024 Tacoma cements itself as the ultimate do-it-all vehicle. Among these trims, enthusiasts will find some familiar faces, as well as new and exciting additions. The roster includes iconic classics like the SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, and TRD Pro, ensuring that Tacoma fans have plenty of options to choose from.

New for this model year is the TRD PreRunner and the first-ever Trailhunter. The TRD PreRunner makes a triumphant return to the Tacoma lineup after being absent since 2015. This fourth-generation incarnation comes fully loaded as a two-wheel-drive off-road powerhouse, catering to those who seek thrill without compromise.

However, the true gem of the 2024 Tacoma lineup is the Trailhunter, a revolutionary, factory-developed overlanding rig. This all-new trim has been crafted with the latest off-road technology and sets a new standard for off-roading and camping enthusiasts.

While pricing details have not been announced as of yet, drivers can expect non-hybrid models of the 2024 Tacoma to hit showrooms later this year. Models equipped with the powerful hybrid powertrain are expected to go on sale in early 2024.

Exterior, Powertrain, Performance

The 2024 Tacoma is more powerful than ever. Two efficient powertrains round out the lineup, both using a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. The first is Toyota’s i-FORCE, which produces  278 horsepower and 317 lb.-ft. of torque when paired with the new eight-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. And don’t worry, manual transmission lovers – Toyota has you covered. A six-speed intelligent manual transmission (iMT2) with automatic rev-matching and anti-stall technology is available on Double Cab models of the SR, TRD Sport, and TRD Off-Road trims.

For those looking to take their performance ever higher, the i-FORCE MAX takes the Tacoma to the next level. It generates a remarkable 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. Tow ratings for both start at 6,000 lbs, with the gas engine models towing up to 6,500 pounds.

The 2024 Tacoma is built on the cutting-edge TNGA-F global truck platform, which it shares with the Tundra and Sequoia. New for this model year is a high-strength boxed, steel-ladder frame which adds to the vehicle’s durability and overall performance.

Similar to previous generations, the 2024 Tacoma is available with extended-cab and crew-cab configurations. The XtraCab, which is a two-door body style, pairs with a six-foot cargo bed and is available on SR, SR5, and TRD PreRunner grades.

Official MPG ratings have not been announced at the time of writing.

Interior & Tech

The 2024 Tacoma interior is refined for total comfort. To start, gas models have three times the storage capacity compared to the previous model. Throughout the cabin, drivers can find ample storage, whether it’s the new shelf integrated into the instrument panel or the MOLLE panels on the center console. The Tacoma’s rear seatback can also fold down flat for additional loading surface.

Hidden inside the driver’s side dashboard is also a fun new feature. A QR code directs owners to the Toyota website for dimensions to design and 3D print their own accessories.

Like its predecessors, the 2024 Tacoma is outfitted with the latest and greatest technology. Some features include a 14-inch touchscreen display, a hands-free powerlift gate, standard Smart Key System with push-button start, and an available 10-speaker JBL Flex portable speaker.

Safety

Safety is always top of mind for Toyota. The 2024 Tacoma is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, and it has been upgraded with major improvements. Proactive Driving Assist is new for this model year and supports the driver with gentle braking, steering, and distance control to help ensure safe maneuvers.

The Tacoma also features a Trailer Camera, 3D Multi-Terrain View Monitor, and  3D Panoramic View Monitor so drivers can see areas not always in view. New-to-Tacoma TSS enhancements are made possible by system sensors with improved detection capability. Toyota Safety Sense includes:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
  • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
  • Lane Tracing Assist
  • Road Sign Assist
  • Automatic High Beams
  • Proactive Driving Assist
