2023 Toyota Tacoma SR5 Gains New SX and Chrome Packages
America’s #1-selling mid-size pickup is back for 2023. Except for this time, it welcomes two new packages to the lineup. Now available on the 2023 Toyota Tacoma SR5 grades are the SX and Chrome packages.
Outside of the new add-ons, the Toyota Tacoma returns for 2023 with a familiar lineup that includes 8 trim options: SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, TRD Pro, Trail Edition, and Nightshade Edition.
At the time of writing, the 2023 Toyota Tacoma is not yet on sale. It will arrive in Imperial, CA mid to late 2022, with pricing details to be announced closer to the vehicle’s on-sale date.
2023 Toyota Tacoma SR5 SX Package
With 17 years on the road, the Tacoma has a long heritage of bringing power and performance to drivers. Over the years, Tacoma drivers have also made customizing and personalizing their trucks with Toyota OEM parts a key part of Tacoma’s popularity and heritage. Building on that legacy, the popular SR5 grade will offer two new packages for the 2023 model year.
The first of the two is the SX Package. Previously available on the SR grade, the SX package provides a great head start to drivers wanting a custom ride. The SX upgrade is offered exclusively on V6-powered SR5 Access Cab or Double Cab models (4×2 or 4×4).
The bold package includes a blacked-out look featuring:
- Black over-fenders
- Black 16-inch wheels
- Blackout trim
- Black outer mirrors
- Unique bed graphic
What’s the difference between the 2023 Toyota Tacoma Nightshade Edition vs. Toyota Tacoma SR5 SX package?
Though the two provide a similar all-black sophisticated look, they are based on two different trims. The 2023 Toyota Tacoma Nightshade Edition is based on the Limited trim, which is Tacoma’s most premium grade. The SX package, on the other hand, is only available on the SR5 models. So depending on what additional convenience features a driver is looking for, the SX package offers a similar look to the Nightshade without the additional cost.
2023 Toyota Tacoma SR5 Chrome Package
The second of the two new upgrades is the 2023 Tacoma Chrome Package. This package is only available on V6-powered SR5 Double Cabs with 5-foot beds in either 4×2 or 4×4. Included in the Chrome Package is:
- 18-inch chrome-finished alloy wheels
- Chrome-finished outer door handles
- Chrome-finished exhaust tip and tailgate
- Leather-wrapped shift knob
Robust and Powerful Lineup
The Tacoma is one of the most diverse truck lineups with over 34 combinations in total. The versatile truck offers two power choices for drivers. The first is a standard 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of peak torque. For those wanting more, the Tacoma has an available 3.5-liter V6 which serves up 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired with a standard six-speed automatic transmission, though there is a manual option for the V6.
On both engines, drivers have the choice between 4×2 or 4×4 models. Equipped on all V6 engines is also the standard Tow Package. The 2023 Toyota Tacoma can pull up to 6,800-lbs depending upon the model grade.
Versatile Interior
The Tacoma is as capable on the inside as it is on the outside. When it comes to the cabin, it does not skimp out on comfort. Inside, drivers will notice how quiet the ride is thanks to enhanced door seals, a multi-layer acoustic windshield, a sound-absorbing headliner, and a floor silencer pad.
The luxurious feel doesn’t stop there. Soft-wrapped trim and metallic accents exude a high-quality feel. The Tacoma SR and SR5 grades are equipped with a fabric-trimmed seat. Exclusive to the TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road grades are Softex seats which are embossed to convey a dynamic and rugged effect. Lastly, The TRD Pro features leather-trimmed and heated front seats.
Standard Safety and Tech
Industry-leading safety comes standard on the Tacoma. Every model is equipped with the Star Safety System, which includes 6 technology features designed to keep you and your passengers safe. Among these are Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, and Smart Stop brake override technology.
The 2023 Tacoma also features an Advanced Airbag System. Both the driver and front passenger seats are equipped with knee airbags. Similarly, the truck includes roll-sensing Side Curtain airbags. A Tire Pressure Monitor System and Toyota Safety Sense are also standard.
